Hyderabad FC Reach First ISL Final

Hyderabad FC Reach First ISL Final

Hyderabad FC initially lost 0-1 to ATK Mohun Bagan in the Indian Super League semifinal, second leg. However, the former bounced back and made history in a thrilling contest at the Athletic Stadium in Bambolim, winning 3-2 on aggregate over two legs. Hyderabad qualifies for their first ISL final in team history.

Manolo Marquez, head coach for Hyderabad, fielded the same lineup that prevailed 3-1 in the first leg, while Juan Ferrando made a few tweaks to the ATKMB lineup with Tiri being out with injuries. Kiyan Nassiri replaced him in the starting lineup for this match.

In the first minutes, ATKMB appeared to control the game when Liston Colaco was proving to be a pain for Hyderabad defenders with his quick runs. Colaco’s industry might have paid out soon if it weren’t for the local boy curling his shot just wide off target after dribbling past a few Hyderabad defenders.

Colaco attempted to set up Krishna with a similar run and delivery inside the box, but Yasir Mohammad was there to keep the Fijian forward at bay. At the other end, Hyderabad FC’s top stars led the team in defending the goal.

In the second half, Hyderabad FC had to deal with a devastating blow when Sauvik Chakrabarti came off due to an injury. ATKMB kept on attacking as Hyderabad FC sat back and defended deep. Ferrando replaced Sandesh Jhingan with Manvir Singh to go all out for goals, desperate for a win. When Akash Mishra brought down Joni Kauko, several appeals for penalties occurred, but replays proved he was tackled just outside the box.

A late-game ATKMB goal came from Colaco, who again demonstrated his brilliance down the left side of the pitch, sprinting through and crossing from the far post where Krishna was on hand to score from close.

ATKMB’s Roy Krishna scored in the 79th minute, giving his team a glimmer of hope, but in the end, the effort was not enough for last season’s finalists. ATKMB waved the white flag as Hyderabad FC’s defence proved too difficult for them to overcome. The men in yellow booked a final date with the Kerala Blasters at the PJN Stadium in Fatorda this weekend.
