Bengaluru FC finished 7th in the recent Indian Super League, which is not an impressive performance. However, the West Block Blues have a lot to be excited about for the Bengaliru FC upcoming season. We already know of Bangalore football’s winning culture, and this is a team that is designed to win, not to be at the latter end of the standings. The Bangalore football club currently boasts of a lineup with a mix of sluggish veterans and upcoming youngsters. With the help of four import players, FC Bangalore’s future is definitely shining bright.
Bengaluru FC is relatively new to the Indian Super League as they only joined the top-tier league in 2017. They right away won the Indian Super Cup 2018 during its first-year run at the ISL. The championship was not a surprise to many football fans, considering how Bengaluru FC has been so dominant during its stint in the I League, winning multiple championships and even representing India in the AFC Cup three times. However, Bengaluru FC has been on a steady decline since the previous season as they missed making the playoffs for the first time in the ISL.
Rich History and Winning Tradition
The Bengaluru Football Club was first established in July 2013 and first competed in the I League in September later that year. They won the I League right away during its rookie season and scored another one 2 years later before moving on to the more prestigious league, the ISL. During its brief career in the professional soccer leagues, they already have won 6 titles: 2 I League titles, 2 Federation Cup titles, 1 ISL title, and a Super Cup Championship. These championship runs are quite impressive for a team that has not even reached 10 years in existence.
Bengaluru FC is considered to be one of the model clubs in the professional soccer league. Owned by the JSW Group; an Indian conglomerate company, Bengaluru FC is known to implement advanced and high-tech training methods. Bengaluru FC’s managing director Sajjan Jindal implemented the use of on-field training equipment to keep the players fit and active. This modern sense of professionalism drew praise from colleagues and fans alike. The franchise has the Sree Kanteerava Stadium as its home stadium for the games, and Bengaluru FC has an ongoing partnership with Rangers FC of the Scottish Premier League.
It is safe to say that Bengaluru FC will eventually become one of the top football clubs in Asia, given their winning tradition and championship culture. Even though the franchise is coming off a rare bad season in the ISL, you cannot discount its history as champions even during their rookie campaign. The ball is round, and Bengaluru FC just hit the bottom surface last year, but we doubt the team will remain in such a position even in this upcoming ISL season. This club has too much pride to stay in that mid-table bracket. After a disappointing 7th-place finish, the only way for Bengaluru FC is the upward direction for the new season.
As of late, the biggest weakness of the Bengaluru FC is their inconsistency. Seasoned veterans like Sunil Chhetri and Udanta Singh have shown flashes of brilliance but were relatively quiet during their most important games last year. Cleiton Silva is still their main guy, but the Brazilian cannot do it alone for the Bengaluru FC. He definitely needs help, and the franchise hopes any of its youngsters will have a vast improvement in the upcoming season.
Not long enough, Bengaluru FC will be back in the top four spots and eventually make the playoffs. Last year’s disappointing finish is a rare feat for this successful football club, and we don’t expect it to happen in back to back seasons for the Blues. Marco Pezzaiuoli is in the middle year of his 3-year contract, and a lot is expected of him for this new campaign. His coaching style is a welcome development for Bengaluru FC on its redemption campaign this 2022-2023 ISL season.
Bengaluru FC is on the upper echelon of successful teams in Indian professional football history. The resume and accolades say it all for this young yet colourful franchise. Its fanbase, known as the West Block Blues, is the loudest and most vocal fanbase in all of Indian football. They would not allow the same disappointing season to happen for them this year, and they will surely do all that they can in terms of support and motivation to raise Bengaluru FC back to its championship ways. If the Blues have another disappointing season, one can expect a major turnaround for this franchise and a total rebuild is happening. Good luck to Bengaluru FC’s 2022-2023 Indian Super League campaign.
