WSU Fails Two Games in California

WSU soccer returns home for three games in a row. This is the Cougars’ sole game for the weekend. The Cougars are coming off two 2-1 loss to Cal and Stanford, resulting in their longest losing run of the season.

Their only other defeat came in the first meeting with Michigan. WSU had a 10-game winning run before their defeats.

WSU is halfway through the season. It has six conference games remaining until the playoffs. With a 2-2-1 conference record, the Cougs are tied for fifth place with the Colorado Buffaloes. 

The No. 1 nationally rated UCLA Bruins lead the Pac-12 with a 5-0 conference record and a 13-0 overall record.

WSU is 11-3-7 all-time versus Oregon. The last time these two clubs played, WSU won 1-0 in October 2021. WSU won the first meeting 2-1 in October 2000.

The Ducks last defeated the Cougs in 2011. WSU is presently undefeated in nine games versus Oregon. The Oregon Ducks are 4-5-4 on the season. So far, they have a 2-3 series record.

The Ducks began the season with a 2-0 victory over New Mexico State. They had three consecutive draws. These are against San Francisco, Gonzaga, and Texas after the victory.

After that, Oregon proceeded on a two-game losing run. It fell 3-1 to the Boise State Broncos and 4-1 to Santa Clara. The Ducks won 1-0 over Hofstra before drawing 1-1. This is against the Portland Pilots to round off their non-conference slate.

The Ducks faced the Washington Huskies in their first conference game of the season. The Ducks won 2-0. They then hosted the UCLA Bruins and the USC Trojans, with UCLA winning 3-1 and USC winning 4-0.

Oregon triumphed 1-0 against the Utah Utes in their second conference game. Oregon’s final game before facing WSU was a 1-0 loss to the Colorado Buffaloes on Sunday.

The Ducks are headed this season by Ajanae Respass, Lexi Romero, and Jordan Snyder. Respass leads the Ducks with four goals, while her two assists are tied for the most on the team with Snyder. 

Both Snyder and Romero have two aims for Oregon. Snyder has appeared in only six games this season.

Leah Freeman, the goalkeeper for Oregon, has played in 12 games this season. Freeman has allowed 14 goals while stopping 77 shots. Her 77 saves this season are the most in the Pac-12, with Oregon State’s Hailey Coll coming in second with 60. Freeman also leads the conference in save percentage with.846.

Oregon has 14 goals and 20 goals allowed this season. To score their 14 goals, they took 101 shots, 39 of which were on target. They have received one red card this season.

Following the Ducks, WSU will face the Arizona State Sun Devils. This is on Thursday before ending the weekend against Arizona. They will face No. 1 rated UCLA.
